She didn't bring along a plate of cookies, or offer to water the plants if they're out of town. Instead of doing any number of nice acts, this woman decided to chide her new neighbors over their house decorations (or lack thereof).
First impressions matter. The couple who told this story in the r/MalciousCompliance subreddit know that all too well. Since their neighbor didn't introduce herself, and instead decided to grill them about their decorating plans, it left the couple with a bad taste in their mouth. It's pretty telling of this woman's personality, though: maybe their first impression was all they needed to know about this entitled neighbor anyway. The couple certainly won't be doing any neighborly favors for her.
Commenters loved this malicious compliance, and it's a fun reminder that you can just decorate for your favorite holiday year-round, if you have the nerve. Even if your neighbors dislike it, well, that's just too bad.
