Imagine if managers gave us proper training, incentives, and praise once in a while. Strangely, these simple non-negotiables are the reason that nobody wants to work anymore–can you blame us? You get tossed into the throes of a churning chum machine called 'Your New Office' and without any training or guidance, you're expected to hit the ground running, exceed targets, and work 60 hours a week on salary. Hmm, last I checked, we're all clocking in just to pick up a sweet little paycheck at the end of the month, isn't the money the point?
So the next time your boss is asking you to stay late to finish a project that they could have approved weeks ago, keep this in mind. While your CEO is galavanting through the Mediterranean on his mega-yacht, you're down in the trenches on Microsoft Teams finding that 1.36% productivity increase they were looking for last quarter. We may be lining the pockets of the suits upstairs, but it doesn't mean they can steal our spirit from us too! Hang in there, work your hours, and then go home. Leave your work at the office after 5 PM and use all of your PTO; life's too short to be wasted under fluorescent lights and in semi-functional swivel chairs.
